About This Site

"You don't have the right craft tool for that" pops up almost every time I log into an MMO. It means I can't go forward until I open a window and drag around a few icons. That's just a few seconds of wasted time, but I grind my teeth whenever I see it.

Even though it's not my favorite part of a game, "You don't have the right craft tool for that" does have a unique and wonderful attribute. It brings together four of my favorite things: games, crafts, computers and gadgets. This blog does the same thing, hopefully without the teeth-gnashing.

Why a blog about miniature gaming and painting?

No, I don't have a lot of experience with painting miniatures or playing miniature wargames. But this hobby is a combination of two things that I absolutely love. I want to take my experience in the two areas and combine it into something new (or at least new to me).

I also miss painting with real paint and a real brush. Most of my professional work is digital now and I do my "painting" in Photoshop with a tablet and stylus. Miniature painting is a perfect excuse to work with some of my favorite tools.

On a more practical note, I have accumulated hundreds of plastic and pewter miniatures over the last 10 years. Some of them I bought myself. But many are random bits of convention swag or the results of trades with other gamers and gaming professionals. I've been tempted by this hobby for over a decade. Now it's time to turn all these tiny soldiers into something useful. This blog is motivation to keep me painting.
